Job Responsibilities

Located in Changhua, Taiwan

The primary focus of the Engineering department is to lead and execute large, mid size capital projects and smaller continuous improvement projects related to commercial chemical manufacturing processes. The Senior Mechanical/ Process Equipment Engineer provides subject matter expertise in the areas of mechanical design and mechanical integrity to ALAM.

The primary activities of the department are:

  • Create three-dimensional design packages based upon process specification documents received from the Process Engineering and other groups. Designs should meet or exceed requirements for safety, quality, cost-effectiveness, constructability, maintainability, mechanical integrity and local codes & regulations.
  • Improvement activities related to commercial chemical manufacturing processes.
  • Provide technical solutions and insights, leadership, and assistance in implementation.
  • Key collaborators in these activities are Process Development, Process Engineering, Automation and Controls, Production, Maintenance,Quality, and Safety departments. Key customers are ESSH, Quality, and Production.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Work as part of a cross-functional team to develop, design, specify, and commission production equipment for the next generation of materials required for the microelectronics and solar manufacturers.
    • Troubleshoot process equipment and systems
    • Improve the safety of existing manufacturing installations
    • Identify and implement methods for manufacturing cost reduction in line with business needs
    • Provide mechanical and process equipment engineering expertise across various product lines and sites
    • Provide plant layout engineering solutions considering the local codes and regulations
    • Develop practical solutions to complex technical problems, with systematic traceable design methodology.
    • Design standard process equipment solutions that apply across product lines.
    • Document and communicate institutional knowledge throughout the organization
    • Make quantitative, fact-based decisions
    • Direct projects to on time, on budget delivery with required safety and quality
    • Participate in the training of Maintenance and Production personnel

    Required Qualifications

    Education

    • BS or MS in mechanical or chemical engineering with strong mechanical Aptitude.

    Experience

    • Minimum More than 10 years of mechanical design experience translatable to the design of chemical process equipment.(Preferred more than 15 years)

    Skills & Competencies

    • 3D Solid Modeling experience, Solid works preferred
    • Knowledge of piping and tubing design.
    • Demonstrates ability and drive to develop safe, reliable solutions.
    • Influence others and receive influence through cooperative, respectful, fact-based interactions.
    • Demonstrate a logical problem solving aptitude.
    • Proven track record of delivering on commitments
    • Proven ability to lead change, personally adaptable, and able to perform well under pressure and constantly changing priorities
    • Solution/outcome oriented in an environment with minimal supervision
    • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals
    • Problem solving and decision making skills
    • AutoCAD program skills
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skillsin English
    • 15%~20% domestic and international travel for commissioning and support

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience in designing and improving systems for manufacturing highly hazardous materials
    • Knowledge and experiences in plant layout engineering for optimizing structures, buildings and equipment arrangement
    • Knowledge of firefighting, building,HVACand electrical regulations and standards, including NFPA and ICC codes.
    • Knowledge of ASTM, ASME codes and CGA standards
    • Electronic and Semiconductor chemical experience desired
    • Experience with equipment design.
    • Trained in standard procedures for safe gas and chemical handling
    • Chemical plant operation experience strongly preferred
    • Formal process safety experience is a plus, especially process hazard analysis leadership, LOPA, and HAZOP
    • Experience related to sizable EPC projects strongly preferred
    • Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to multi-task
    • Team player with leadership abilities.
    • Self-starter with the ability to perform well under pressure and continuously changing priorities
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Korean, Japanese is a plus.
