The Role

As part of the Platform Hardware Architecture team at Ampere, co-located in Taipei, Portland, and Santa Clara, you will join a small tightly-knit team that drives technology development and design execution for some of the most complex products on the planet.

What You’ll Do
  • Provide platform and system mechanical technical leadership for Ampere’s server processor products
  • Provide the competitive analysis of next generation mechanical designs for datacenter platforms and systems offered by competitors or standard organizations
  • Provide cross functional leadership to derive platform and system mechanical design specification for server platform and system working with CPU/SOC architecture team, package design team, and platform design team
  • Lead formal cross-functional design reviews
  • Lead mechanical detailed design activities of platform and system in terms of components, sub-assemblies, and system integration
  • Perform static and dynamic design simulations such as structural/finite element analysis at the component, sub-assembly, system, and rack level
  • Conduct mechanical design activities from concept to prototype
  • Create and analyze system and structural architecture specifications and implementation tradeoffs to meet cost and performance targets.
  • Create the test plan for the mechanical design and validate the design by conducting validation activities based on the test plan
  • Create the design BOM and work with ODM/Customers to release the mechanical design specification and the BOM into manufacturing and volume production
  • Work with platform team to develop, bring-up, and validate Ampere platforms to meet product requirements.
  • Work with PM to manage the mechanical design/development activities and associated schedules
  • Provide engineering support for lead customer’s questions related to mechanical/structural design of server platform and system
  • Drive technology development activities to enable Ampere’s next-gen server processor platforms
What you’ll bring
  • Minimum of 8 years of server, datacenter, or high-performance computing platform mechanical design experience across multiple full product life cycles, from concept to HVM mass production
  • Expertise in mechanical engineering, modeling and simulation with tools, Solidworks, ANSYS, ABAQUS or equivalent
  • Experience with the design of components, integration, and test of electro-mechanical assemblies and sub-assemblies
  • Hands-on experience in prototype bring-up and debugging, functional verification, and root cause failure analysis
  • Experience with mechanical validation tests process that may include, Environmental Test Engineering (ETE), Shock and Vibration testing, instrumentation, and characterization.
Preferred
  • Experience with system integration into data center rack level and meeting environmental requirements
  • Experience with mechanical modeling and simulation for ARM, X86, or similar CPU architectures
  • Experience with 1U and 2U server layouts and mechanical trade-off studies.
  • Experience leading Customer/ODM/CM product developments from definition through manufacturing release
Education
  • BS/MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline
