In 2021–22 we reached 650 million people.Role Purpose
  • To maintain and enhance professional development and academic quality in the teaching center, through the management of an in-house teacher development program and support
  • To promote and ensure quality teaching and effective learning of English
  • To provide learners with a rewarding and stimulating English language learning experience
  • To support the wider aims of the British Council and its cultural relations mission
Accountabilities
  • Plan and deliver high-quality English language lessons which meet the needs of different customer groups, taking into account individual learning styles – up to the number of contracted teaching hours
  • Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to help manage students’ performance throughout the course, and actively promote learner autonomy and a sense of progress
  • Contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials, and related services, in order to meet student’s needs by actively working as a member of the teaching team
  • Complete teaching-related administrative tasks to specified standards
  • Actively engage in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning, and maintain the British Council’s position at the forefront of best ELT practices
  • Contribute to the development of lasting, mutually beneficial relationships by enhancing students’ understanding of contemporary UK
  • Assist the teaching centre team in delivering excellent customer service and upholding British Council Values and Behaviours
  • Ensure safeguarding and guidelines are applied and upheld in line with standards and policy for the following areas:
    • Child protection
    • Equal Opportunity and Diversity
    • Health and safety
QualificationsEssentials
  • Cambridge CELTA/ Trinity Cert TESOL
  • Undergraduate/University degree in any discipline
Desirables
  • Recognised diploma in EFL i.e. Cambridge DELTA/Trinity Diploma or equivalent
  • PGCE/B.Ed. in Primary/Secondary or equivalent
  • CELT-YL extension/TYLEC
Work Experience
  • Two years post-certificate (i.e., CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL) experience
  • Experience in teaching relevant age groups:
    • Young learners aged 4-7 (400+hours)
    • Young learners aged 8-12 (400+hours)
    • Young learners aged 13-17 (400+hours)
    • Adults learners (400+hours)
Salary & BenefitsSalary: TWD NT$ 67,500 per month (point 1) to TWD 84,188 per month (point 10) on the 18H Teacher salary scale depending on qualification and experience.Contract type:IndefiniteStart date: From 1st July 2023Accommodation Allowances: No accommodation allowance is provided, but we can provide time off (during non-teaching hours) in order to seek accommodation when you first arrive in Taiwan.Settling-in Allowance: Teachers recruited from outside Taiwan will be provided up to two weeks’ hotel accommodation and a subsistence allowance to allow you to find more permanent accommodation. Teachers recruited from within Taiwan are not eligible for the settling-in allowance.Fares and Travel: Teachers recruited from outside Taiwan will receive economy class travel for the member of staff, accompanying partner, and children, from their previous post or from the UK. This will be reimbursed on arrival in Taiwan. Teachers recruited from within Taiwan are not eligible for airfares.Baggage allowance: Teachers recruited from outside Taiwan will receive economy class travel for the member of staff, accompanying partner, and children, from their previous post or from the UK, which will be reimbursed on arrival in Taiwan. Teachers recruited from within Taiwan are not eligible for airfares.Medical allowance:Taiwan has very good medical facilities and services. Staff are covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme and a supplementary private Medical Insurance plan. Dental care is good and generally not expensive under the National Health Insurance scheme. N.B.
