ResponsibilitiesThe Applications Engineer (AE) is primarily a Software Engineer/Developer. Applications Engineers act as consultants and provide support to OEMs/ODMs and internet service providers. AEs are the main technical point of contact to customers and the technical voice of the customers within the organization to meet the customers technical milestones. AEs help customers and their developers leverage MaxLinear-based solutions for new and existing products to achieve the best performance. In this role, you will focus on:
- Create and prepare collateral materials to capture best methods and demonstrate their results
- Debug and fix issues found by the customer
- Ensure that software products run best on MaxLinear’s latest and upcoming platforms and technologies by leading software vendors (ISVs and corp. developers)
- Support and influence SW developers during all phases of SW development cycle including feature definition, project setup, project execution, go-to-market
- Support all technical related issues and questions from customers or peer application engineers
- Provide solutions or viable workarounds to help customers resolve issues
- Identify, triage and debug problems in software stacks and work with MaxLinear SW Engineers and customer developers to fix bugs
- Clarify and reproduce customer technical issues in a local environment to debug and resolve challenges
- Providing technical training, consultation, and hands-on assistance to SW developers in areas of architecture, technologies, code development, testing and tuning of software
- Contribute to MaxLinear software and hardware product development by providing technical feedback to product teams
- Linux embedded system software development
- Strong software triage and debugging skills in an embedded environment
- C/C++ programming experience with an emphasis on embedded systems
- Linux networking expert
- Linux operating system and computer system architecture
- Advanced level user of source control tools such as Git and associated technologies
- Authoring, editing and presenting technical documents and proposals
- Fast learner and great communicator
- Expert in communication technology, voice communication protocols and implementations. Expected to support customers with new voice deployments on current and future silicon.
- Expert level knowledge in network Router/Gateway software stack (i.e. RDK-B, PRPL)
- Knowledge and experience with network protocols and stacks TCP, UDP, SNMP, IPv6, IGMP, Gateway, VoIP protocols, DSL, PON
- Familiar with first line customer support, can help and debug many areas in our SDK (Moca, Voice, basic DOCSIS and RDK debug capabilities)
- DOCSIS and broadband cable standards – Optional advantage
- Firmware development & debug – Optional advantage
- BS in Computer Science or related + 3 years of experience, or MS
