In this Hardware Engineering Director role, you will be a key leader of the Display & Optics team within Facebook Reality Labs, working in APAC to manage a growing team of engineers in the region tasked with leading the technology transfer efforts from the engineering teams in the US and with partners in Asia. Your direct reports include Lead Engineers responsible for technology transfer as well as individual contributors working as optical, metrology, or system engineers, all in APAC, supporting the development and productization of AR, VR, and Portal families of products. The team of Lead Engineers, working on technology transfer, are at the center of a wide network of cross-functional partners: Supply Chain, Advanced Manufacturing, Testing, Quality, Reliability, Operations, and Program Management. You and the team are expected to be closely tied to the engineering efforts and programs with a deep understanding of what constitutes success for a successful maturing of new technologies leading up to the ramp-up phase.

Responsibilities
  • With this first of its kind role, partner with the org leader and peers in the US to develop the strategy for technology transfer of 3-5 different areas through maturation and into the ramp-up and production phases.
  • Establish strong technical presence in the region for the organization poised for growth, and adapting to changes as needed.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the inner workings of the technologies being developed.
  • Coach, guide, and grow the team to achieve business impact/results while helping them excel in their careers.
  • Develop strong relationships and work collaboratively with cross-functional partners
  • participate in defining roles and responsibilities.
  • Develop and manage the contingent workforce strategy in the region.
  • Develop strong executive-level relationships with key suppliers/partners in the region.
Minimum Qualification
  • Strong background in optics and display hardware development.
  • Experience in developing and shipping innovative products with high complexity.
  • Deep understanding of the technical and operational processes required to ensure the successful ramp-up of new products and new technologies into the production phase.
  • Experience acting as a lead in the region in a similar role.
  • Experience dealing and managing CMs and partners with shipping hardware at scale.
  • Exceptional people management and leadership skills.
  • Strong business sense and acumen.
  • Strong bias towards action in technology development with experience in understanding trade-offs to enable a successful ramp.
  • At least 7 years of industry experience and multiple years as a manager. Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering.
  • Fluent in English and Mandarin, verbal and written.
