Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
• 7 years of experience designing and supporting Systems-on-a-Chip (SoC) in a hardware or software capacity
• Experience with Tablet, Laptop, or Chromebook product designs
• Experience wokring with SoC suppliers
  
  

Preferred qualifications:

• Master’s or PhD’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering
• 10 years of experience in Electrical Engineering disciplines, such as silicon architectures and development (i.e., CPU, GPU, DSP, memory, communication bus interfaces, etc.) and high-speed digital interfaces
• Knowledge of SoC power performance analysis, methods, Hardware Systems power analysis, system architecture, and memory analysis
• Excellent communication skills, driving ownership and commitment toward success with teams and peers

Your team designs and builds the hardware, software and networking technologies that power all of Google’s services. As a Hardware Engineer, you design and build the systems that are the heart of the world’s largest and most powerful computing infrastructure. You develop from the lowest levels of circuit design to large system design and see those systems all the way through to high volume manufacturing. Your work has the potential to shape the machinery that goes into our cutting-edge data centers affecting millions of Google users.

The Google Nest team focuses on hardware, software and services offerings for the home, ranging from Nest thermostats to Nest smart displays. The Nest team researches, designs, and develops new technologies and hardware to make users’ homes more helpful. Our mission is the helpful home: to create a home that cares for the people inside it and the world around it.

Responsibilities

• Lead platform architecture definition and related technical documentation for products in the Google Nest Hardware portfolio. Drive system-level requirements for products in the incubate and pre-concept phases
• Collaborate with Product Management, Hardware/Software/Technical Engineering, and Engineering Program Manager teams in leading the product definition from Product Required Documents (PRD) to Concept stage
• Work with merchant SoC suppliers and ensure alignment of their roadmaps with the needs of our products. Play a role with SoC downselection
• Analyze data-flows within the SoC and perform memory bandwidth and performance analysis for the user journeys of our products
• Assist with synthetic performance benchmarks representing the product workloads for CPU, GPU, NPU, and DSP components of the SoC to ensure performance and power analysis can be done early in the product conception phase
