Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or equivalent practical experience
• 5 years of experience in supply chain management, manufacturing, business negotiation, or partner management
• Experience with finance and analytics
• Experience with cost modeling and negotiation
  
  

Preferred qualifications:

• Master’s or advanced degree in business and industrial engineering
• Experience in consumer hardware product development, mass production, connected devices, ambient computing, UWB/LTE, and carrier business
• Experience with negotiation, establishing impactful partnerships, executive relationship management, and in procurement/supply chain
• Experience working with legal teams to complete legal agreements and commercial negotiations and ability to interpret and draft legal documents
• Ability to speak and write in English and Mandarin fluently
• Ability to travel 20% of the time and for extended periods of time as needed
  
  

About The Job

Commodity Managers work with Engineering teams to make sure Google has the supplies and equipment to put into production the innovative products coming from our Engineering teams. As a Commodity Manager, you use your wide industry knowledge and strategic supplier relationships to optimize our total cost of ownership for our global -- and growing -- infrastructure. The scale at which Google operates means that savings on just one piece of hardware can have a huge impact on Google’s bottom line.

As a Manufacturing Business Manager, you will lead manufacturing partners with technical and commercial knowledge, utilizing the supply base to achieve excellent innovation, cost, quality, and supply to delight Google hardware, Nest, and Fitbit users.

You will manage commercial relationships with Contract Manufactures (CM) and Joint Development Manufacturers (JDM), and drive sourcing, agreement, commercial, and performance optimization decisions for devices. You will work with Google Engineering and Operations teams to achieve product cost, schedule, and quality targets throughout the product lifecycle.

In this role, you will build and maintain excellent partnership with CM/JDMs, drive effective escalations, host executive sessions, and lead strategic initiatives to enhance long-term manufacturing capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Manage the agreement creation process with the cross-functional program needs in mind. Manage manufacturing partners to program requirements in cost, quality, schedule, and technology areas.
• Develop cost models of assemblies and products (i.e. manufacturing value added), lead discussions, and drive continuous cost optimization during mass production.
• Manage Total Cost of Ownership discussions. Support engineering and operations escalations and drive immediate performance improvement.
• Update and report cost performance and supply chain risk management, and lead executive sessions with CM/JDMs and technology roadshows, and propose periodic cost improvement.
• Develop CM/JDM strategy, implement supplier management processes with partners, and lead the creation/implementation of processes.
