As we continue to expand our operations, we are seeking a visionary and results-driven professional to join our team as the Country Head of Sea Freight in Taiwan.
JOB PURPOSE
As the Country Head of Sea Freight, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing all sea freight operations within Taiwan. You will be responsible for developing and executing the sea freight strategy, driving growth, and ensuring the efficient and cost-effective management of our sea freight products and services.
KEY RESPONSIBILITY
Strategy & Steering
-> Holds full product P&L responsibility of Taiwan.
-> Defines Sea Freight strategy and ensures locally adapted but consistent Sea Freight strategy definition and execution on lower organizational levels.
-> Provides binding standards and guidelines for Hellmann Worldwide Logistics’ Sea Freight business activities (e.g. product design and development, pricing, target customer segments/markets/trade lanes, monitoring instruments and KPIs, SOPs – based on precepts from above level) and ensures execution on lower organizational levels.
-> Engages with related parties to define budget targets and conducts the forecast for the SF P&L
-> Evaluates bottom-up budget plan and trigger discussion with Regional Head of Sea Freight/ Country Managing Director in case of adjustment needs.
-> Ensures preparation of monthly reporting packages, conducts business performance reviews with disciplinary/ functional direct reports responsibilities, participates in business performance reviews with management on high level view.
-> Monitors overall Sea Freight product performance in reference to all relevant strategies and targets.
-> Represents product on respective level, both internally and externally.
-> Initiates and leads product-relevant projects.
-> Proactively fosters and supports company-wide/regional/country initiatives and projects.
Leadership in the matrix
-> Fosters collaboration between Geos/General Management, Products, Sales and Supporting functions (“matrix mindset”).
-> Decides jointly with Country Managing Directors respective branch managers on HR matters (e.g. hiring/ termination, target setting, performance appraisals) for respective Sea Freight Ops Team Leads in branches.
-> Provides functional direction/ guidance on Sea Freight business matters and defines functional development (e.g. training) for respective Sea Freight Ops Team Leads in branches
-> Defines succession/ replacement, recruiting and personnel development needs for disciplinary direct reports and coordinates with HR.
-> Acts as escalation level and supports conflict resolution.
Product Development & Pricing
-> Supports development of Sea Freight products and services, which satisfy the market/ customer needs (in collaboration with Sales).
-> Approves and coordinates market launch of new/ altered products and ensures locally adapted but consistent implementation on lower organizational levels.
-> Decides on continuation/ alteration/ termination of existing Sea Freight products and services and ensures adherence on lower organizational levels.
-> Procures capacities from vendors within the product’s respective supply chain.
-> Manages vendor relations and measures vendors’ performances.
-> Provides binding standards and guidelines on door-to-door pricing logic (e.g. minimum margin, negotiation boundaries for Sales).
Customer acquisition & implementation
-> Cooperates with Sales to align product and sales strategies and develops adequate sales targets.
-> Steers sales focus (e.g. focus trade lanes).
-> Supports Sales in the customer acquisition/ retention process, if needed.
-> Assesses tender opportunities and decide on participation (after conferring with Geo/Sales/Finance/Legal).
-> Assesses and approves customer individual requirements deviating from product standards (price, service configuration).
-> Ensures processing of tenders (respective Product in the lead for own product), incl. coordination with other stakeholders (default; pure tender processing coordination might alternatively lie with Sales).
-> Defines negotiation boundaries for Sales.
-> Monitors customer implementation (via A/S BPM & CI and/or respective Branch Managers).
-> Monitors customer profitability after implementation.
-> Manages customer contracts.
Operations
-> Provides binding product-related SOPs/ quality standards and ensure adherence on lower organizational levels.
-> Defines operational performance KPIs and targets; and ensures adherence on lower organizational levels, follows-up on deviations (within functional responsibility for operations) and continuously optimizes operational performance.
-> If branches disciplinarily report directly to Product: Steers operations on a daily basis
-> Functionally steers product-dedicated BPM resources to improve operational processes
-> Reviews contracts with customers regarding compliance to price/ service agreements and take action in case of deviations.
System enhancement
-> Identifies IT-improvement/ Digital solutions need in product-related technologies and systems.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS
-> Strong communication and people management skills
-> Good listening and moderation skills
-> Excellent command of spoken and written English
-> Good team player/ game changer who can effectively build good relationship with the people and teams he/ she will be working with.
EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATION
-> Degree holder or equivalent industry specific qualification
-> Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in international freight forwarding / logistics industry
