Job Description Summary
This position will be responsible for leading and performing low and medium voltage power systems design and commissioning activities up to MW scale, including customer liaison, requirements capture, equipment and system level design, operational definition, simulation and analysis, inspection, test and commissioning activities, initially on Marine power and propulsion projects but with the possibility of working on Energy or Industrial projects in the future.

This is a technical role and will involve working in a class leading multi-disciplinary globally located team of engineers. Customer facing experience, familiarity with Power Systems equipment and designs, equipment testing, and commissioning is essential, and knowledge of class and regulatory rules is desirable.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

• Support project teams delivering power systems (including power generation and distribution, energy storage, protection, power conversion and utilization, control and automation) ensuring the design meets customer and appropriate third-party and/or class and regulatory requirements.
• Produce or support the production of requirements and functional specifications for systems and constituent products including generators, switchboards, transformers, power electronic converters, motors, energy storage systems, cabling etc.
• Ensure the system design complies with the relevant health & safety and applicable international standards, defined project standards, or class society rules where applicable.
• Customer facing experience with the ability to facilitate liaison between customer and/or GE local (Taiwan) and UK teams.
• Ability to work independently and manage oneself, project manage and co-ordinate project and team activities through the design, test and commissioning phases.
• Be capable of supporting equipment inspections, FATs and GE commissioning activities from site management, basic I/O testing to full system commissioning safely (training will be provided).
• Comply with all company and customer health and safety regulations.
  
  

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or higher;
• Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), or the ability to obtain BPSS is required for this vacancy;
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and familiar with software stimulation and design tools, MATLAB, Simulink and eTAP desirable;
• Fluent in Mandarin and English and be willing to travel;
• Suitable candidate must be willing to attend training held in Europe.
  
  

Desired Characteristics

• Produce, or support the production of detailed design studies including, but not limited to short circuit calculations, load flow, protection coordination, quality of power supply including harmonic analyses, common mode and EMC.
• Ability to undertake detailed power systems modelling, analysis and simulation of power electronic converter(s) and machine generation & drive systems and associated equipment, using industrial design tools such as: Matlab, Simulink or eTAP.
• Knowledge of class society and regulatory requirements.
• Chartered Engineer (or working to) and equivalent proven record of continuous professional development.
