About The Job

Google has one of the largest and most powerful computing infrastructures in the world. Your team is responsible for providing the manufacturing capability to deliver this state-of-the-art physical infrastructure. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you evaluate the product designs and create the processes, tools and procedures behind Google’s powerful search technology. When vendors build parts for our infrastructure, you’re right there alongside ensuring manufacturing processes are repeatable and controlled. You collaborate with Commodity Managers and Design Engineers to determine Google’s infrastructure needs and product specifications. Your work ensures the various pieces of Google’s infrastructure fit together perfectly and keep our systems humming along smoothly for a seamless user experience.

Our Augmented Reality (AR) Product Operations team is part of the Mobile Product Operations organization, and is focused on bringing AR products to life through the development of final assembly, test and pack processes and prototypes.

In this role, you will work with our design partners and collaborate during the early stages of NPI in order to ensure smooth transition of technologies into the PDP process. We then partner with cross-functional teams across Global Operations and our manufacturing partners to deliver exceptional products.

Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Our Devices & Services team combines the best of Google AI, Software, and Hardware to create radically helpful experiences for users. We research, design, and develop new technologies and hardware to make our user’s interaction with computing faster, seamless, and more powerful. Whether finding new ways to capture and sense the world around us, advancing form factors, or improving interaction methods, the Devices & Services team is making people’s lives better through technology.

Responsibilities

  • Execute the manufacturing processes through continuous improvement of assembly, automated equipment, and manufacturing partner capabilities (JDM).
  • Develop manufacturing and New Product Introduction (NPI) processes via cross-functional collaboration with Product Design, Quality, and Operations teams to ensure excellent manufacturability and product quality.
  • Provide onsite support for prototype builds until production ramp for final Aassembly and pack-out, responsible for line technical readiness and assembly process qualification.
  • Work with JDM partners on assembly related SOPs, line readiness, cycle time/UPH, process optimization, and line balancing.
  • Assess manufacturing processes through the use of statistical methods and Six Sigma techniques. Define data collection requirements, identify root causes of yield loss, manufacturing process non-conformities, and implement necessary corrective actions.
