Position Title: System Design Engineer

Department: EPC

Entity: Canadian Solar Projects Taiwan Co., Ltd.

Location: Hsinchu County, Taiwan, Taiwan

Reports to: EPC Manager

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare Energy Yield Estimations for all stages of Solar PV Project development as per Canadian Solar standards.
  • Optimized PV design including component selection, module string sizing, conductor etc.
  • Create PV Plant Layouts for utility-scale solar projects using Autocad or Helios 3D/3D modelling software.
  • Create conceptual electrical single line drawings.
  • Support the project development team with feasibility studies, cost models and high level design.
  • Support Procurement by developing and maintain equipment specifications.
  • Support in continuous improvements of design standards, specifications and design process. Provide expertise in creating standardized engineering drawings for PV system layouts; structural supports; and electrical systems etc.
  • Review global projects PV plant layouts from contractors.
  • Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the Canadian Solar Solution Code of Business Conduct.
  • Adhere to all health and safety rules and company policies.
  • Complete other duties and projects as assigned. Required to work in an ISO 9001, 14001 & OHSAS environment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in an Engineering Discipline (Electrical preferred but not required).
  • Possess 2 - 3 years of engineering experience in designing PV plants greater than 500 KW.
  • Proficiency with AutoCad, PVSYST, MS Excel, 3D shading/layout modelling software.
  • Electrical Technician Certificate.

Preferred/Recommended skills:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Wide knowledge of relevant regulations and standards (e.g., electrical code, building codes, international design standards).
  • Deep understanding of PV system owner requirements, including equipment, warranty considerations, long-term reliability, price/performance sensitivities, monitoring systems and total cost of ownership models.
  • Experience engaging with and evaluating equipment vendors and service providers (including engineering firms and EPC contractors).
  • Ability to read & understand electrical, structural, mechanical & architectural drawings.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Must be self-driven, highly motivated & able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to multi-task & manage numerous projects simultaneously.
  • High degree of attention to detail & follow-through.
  • Certifications for PV Engineering and Design.
