As a mechanical engineer, you participate in the design, analysis, and prototyping of new concepts. You work in a manufacturing and product oriented development environment and collaborate with vendors and outside sources in order to see parts through to manufacture.

In this role, you will interface with Industrial Design, Product Design, Product Integrity, Operations, and our manufacturing partners to research and develop brittle materials to deliver breakthrough experiences for our products. By leading the glass/ceramic design and color development across Google, you will help create products that are functional, yet aesthetic, and emotional to our customers.

Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Our Hardware team researches, designs, and develops new technologies and hardware to make our user’s interaction with computing faster, more powerful, and seamless. Whether finding new ways to capture and sense the world around us, advancing form factors, or improving interaction methods, our Hardware team is making people’s lives better through technology.

Responsibilities

  • Create and develop the glass and ceramics roadmap that enables design and product development, collaboratively with product/industrial designers and manufacturing partners
  • Engage with global glass/ceramic suppliers on multiple projects simultaneously, ensure material Design of Experiments (DOE) are carried out, analyze test results, and help select materials for an application
  • Work with Corporate Sustainability, Product Design, Industrial Design, Operations, and Reliability teams on material qualification and pass all product-level testing
  • Manage root-cause integration-related issues caused by glass/ceramics and help resolve in a timely manner with integrators
