As a Financial Specialist – Indirect Tax, you are responsible and accountable for delivering accurate and timely reports and analysis as required by the Group Tax team.The Financial Specialist – Indirect Tax is expected to collaborate with finance and non-finance colleagues across the business, and specifically with the Group Tax team.The role may expand as based with the requirements of the Shared Service Center deliverable requirements.The position will also include requirements to document new methods and procedures as reporting continues to evolve with the business it is supporting.The Finance Specialist – Indirect Tax shall handle the following taxes but not limited to:i.UK VAT;ii.UK gambling taxes and levies – specifically General Betting Duty, Machine Gaming Duty, Remote Gaming Duty and the UK Horseracing Board levy; andiii.Non-UK VAT/GST, gambling taxes and levies, which will include gambling taxes (for example in Gibraltar, Malta, Italy, Spain and Ireland), as well as VAT payable on gambling income.iv.Other indirect taxes that may ariseMain Duties And Responsibilities
  • Tax returns and report validation and review
Percent of time spent in this area: 50%
  • Assist with the calculation of tax payments as guided by the Group Tax
  • Review the tax returns as prepared by the Finance Analyst, submit and file the tax returns for recommendation to the Group Tax on a weekly, biweekly, quarterly, or annual basis or as requested by the Group Tax team
  • Assist with providing data/financial information to help respond to queries arising from the tax authorities, including working with overseas advisors
  • Assess the reportable transactions and collaborate the inclusion with Group Tax if it is part of the regulatory requirements
  • Ensure payment of tax in coordination with Group Treasury
  • Liaise with external advisors on the submission and filing of taxes as well as ensure timely resolution for any tax related issues
  • Gain sufficient understanding on any new changes or requirements on tax filings
  • Prepare reports that may be required for the submission of the tax returns
  • General accounting, Tax Analysis, and Issue Resolution
Percent of time spent in this area: 30%
  • Review and validate tax entries as required and prepared by the Finance Analyst
  • Prepare audit reports as requested from time to time
  • Handle reconciliation of balances if necessary and collaborate with various stakeholders for resolution and understanding
  • Work with wider finance team to review budget variances of taxes and explain the same
  • Manage a network of third party, indirect tax advisors who input into the tax compliance
  • Assist with responding to any queries arising from the tax authorities, including supporting external advisors with obtaining factual information and supporting documentation
  • Ensure completeness of the database for taxes assigned
  • Attend to administrative issues with the filings made
  • Project and adhoc activities
Percent of time spent in this area: 20%
  • Conduct trainings on Shared Services Tax processes
  • Provide technical coaching to Finance Analyst
  • Participation in any finance transformation projects
  • Lead projects that may be assigned or required
  • Update of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Process Manuals and other documents that may be required
  • Continuous improvement around data quality and insightful management reporting to ensure real value-add to the business
RequirementsEducationGraduate of any accounting coursePrevious experience5 years’ experience external and internal combined experience in the field of Finance. Understanding of taxation is an advantage (Internal Hire)5 years’ experience working in the field of accounting, finance, or audit.Experience in Taxation is an advantage.
