About The Job

Our computational challenges are so big, complex and unique we can’t just purchase off-the-shelf hardware, we’ve got to make it ourselves. Your team designs and builds the hardware, software and networking technologies that power all of Google’s services. As a Hardware Engineer, you design and build the systems that are the heart of the world’s largest and most powerful computing infrastructure. You develop from the lowest levels of circuit design to large system design and see those systems all the way through to high volume manufacturing. Your work has the potential to shape the machinery that goes into our cutting-edge data centers affecting millions of Google users.

With your technical expertise, you lead projects in multiple areas of expertise (i.e., engineering domains or systems) within a data center facility, including construction and equipment installation/troubleshooting/debugging with vendors.

The Google Nest team focuses on hardware, software, and services for the home, ranging from Nest thermostats to Nest smart displays. The Google Nest team develops, designs, and develops new technologies and hardware to make users’ homes more helpful. Our mission is the helpful home: to create a home that cares for the people inside it and the world around it.

Responsibilities

  • Define the audio subsystem for consumer electronics devices ensuring that product features and requirements and mapped to system design.
  • Evaluate audio amplifiers and microphones to ensure performance and features meet performance needs. Collaborate with internal stakeholders and drive vendors to meet our next generation requirements.
  • Develop audio schematics and review printed circuit board (PCB) layouts to ensure practices are maintained (e.g. bring up and validation of the design will be part of each design cycle).
  • Work with cross-functional teams to help deliver proper audio digital signal processing (DSP) tuning for telephony, speech recognition, and media playback use cases.
  • Contribute to our roadmap by investigating new technologies and delivering new features.
