What are the requirements for teaching English in Taiwan?

• Bachelor’s degree
• You must be a native English speaker
• Hold a passport from one of the following countries: Australia, Canada, England, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland, South Africa and the United States
• Clear National Background Check from your home country (Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK and the US)
• (If you already have a TEFL certificate, you’ll be eligible for a pay raise)
  
  

What will I earn as an ESL teacher? English Teachers receive the following benefits:

• Earn NT$60,000 to NT$65,000 or more each month. Earn a minimum of NT$620 per teaching hour or more with raises and bonuses as part of the pay structure.
• A higher starting pay is offered to candidates who hold an education degree, teaching license, TEFL/TESL certificate, or full-time teaching experience for at least one year.
• Raises and bonuses are granted through yearly teacher evaluations, in which teachers are assessed on the basis of their teaching ability, attendance, and general professional conduct.
• A monthly stipend of NT$3,000 is provided as pay for preparation, grading, and other administrative duties.

Typical Job Duties Of An ESL Teacher In Taiwan

• 20+ in class teaching hours per week (This is the minimum number of hours you are guaranteed. Most teachers have 22 -26 hours per week.)
• Teacher training is also provided and your school will have materials for use during ESL lesson preparation.
• In addition to your time spent in the classroom you will administer tests, grade papers and participate in school meetings with your Taiwanese co-teachers.
