Job Overview

Our Marine Operations team plays a critical role in our organisation. They’re the experts who go out to survey clients’ ships, appraise designs and offer sound technical advice. They work with our clients to ensure they meet the industry standards that we help to set. We have offices all around the world, our global organisation offers our surveyors the opportunity to learn about the latest developments in the marine industry from their colleagues around the world. As a Surveyor your role will be to perform Marine Surveys for new constructions, ship in servce and marine equipment & components in accordance with applicable Lloyd’s Registers’ Ship Rules and Regulations and other Codes, Standards or Conventions as directed. You will also report all inspections and surveys accurately, as necessary and within the required timescales in order to achieve the target Key Performance Indicators.

Job Responsibilities
  • To perform surveys during construction, in accordance with Lloyd Registers’ Rules and Regulations and other applicable standards.
  • To deal with statutory surveys and certification and where applicable liaise with Flag or Port State Surveyors.
  • To propose solutions or facilitate the resolution of problems encountered during the building process.
  • To ensure reporting in accordance with corporate requirements and timescales to achieve targets set for key performance indicators.
  • To discuss/ present the deliverable with the external client and be able to suggest alternative solutions where appropriate.
  • To assess/ recommend the time/value of the work to be undertaken for an external client within an agreed fee/cost structure.
  • To assist in service delivery improvement by communicating internal/external client feedback as appropriate
  • To conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation and industry standards.
  • To pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • To participate in and contribute to specific job training as directed, this will include Lloyd’s Register’s New Construction Project Management Procedures.
  • To give guidance to other employees, as appropriate, and disseminate information to achieve effective knowledge transfer and application
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor degree in Marine/Mechanical engineering or equivalent level of qualification would be preferred.
  • A good understanding of marine classification, marine repairs, periodical, statutory, materials and equipment surveys as necessary.
  • Enthusiastic and focused on client service delivery.
  • Team member with good communicative skills.
  • Ability to recognise and appreciate differing cultural, commercial and technical viewpoints.
  • Ability to work under pressure and independently.
  • Committed to constant improvement and the ability to implement changes as required.
  • Flexible, keen to learn and develop new skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required (English and local language)
  • A sound awareness of Corporate Health and Safety policies and procedures, and an ability to be proactive in this area
