Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Technology, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience in program management.
  • Experience creating, analyzing, and reporting metrics for project and program management including development, testing, bugs, issues, etc.
  • Experience in applying project management techniques.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 6 years of experience managing cross-functional or cross-team projects.
  • Experience with managing software engineering programs.
  • Experience with program managers, software engineers, and cross-functional teams building end-to-end features and managing technical dependencies across the stack.
  • Ability to define, cost, plan, track, and execute programs across engineering and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work with software engineers, exercise technical and product judgment to cost projects, manage schedules, and resolve project issues.
  • Ability to manage a collection of technical projects, and communicate to a web of executive stakeholders.

As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you’ll use your technical expertise to lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects from start to finish. You’ll work with stakeholders to plan requirements, identify risks, manage project schedules, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners across the company. You’re equally comfortable explaining your team’s analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical tradeoffs in product development with engineers.

A critical function towards delivering on our mission within Nest Software is the Technical Program Management (TPM) function. As the Technical Program Manager, you will envision and deliver a way to simplify the complexity of delivering consumer software, while partnering closely with the various cross-functional teams, transforming the way we plan, measure, and land programs - essentially building the mechanics to make execution effective and efficient.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to understand or identify defined work problems and program goals, obtain prioritized deliverables, and discuss program impact.
  • Prioritize program goals, understand and translate other stakeholders’ needs into program goals and prioritized deliverables with minimal assistance, and contribute to decisions on prioritizing goals and deliverables.
  • Define the scope of projects and develop, execute, or manage project plans for supported program(s).
  • Review key metrics pertaining to a program, monitor potential metric deviations, and define corrective actions for deviations.
  • Identify, communicate, and collaborate with stakeholders within one or more teams to drive impact and work toward mutual goals.
