The Role

As part of the Platform Hardware Architecture team at Ampere, co-located in Taipei, Portland, and Santa Clara, you will join a small tightly-knit team that drives technology development and design execution for some of the most complex products on the planet.

What You’ll Do
  • Provide platform & system architecture technical leadership for Ampere’s server products.
  • Provide cross functional leadership to define, develop, and deliver the product requirements specifications for Ampere’s server processor based platforms, by working with CPU/SOC architecture, package design, platform design, firmware, and product marketing teams, and with external ODM/CM partners. These platforms support SoC characterization, SW development, platform validation, and customer reference designs.
  • Work with package design team to ensure correctness of pin assignment, power delivery, and signal integrity requirements of package and package substrate
  • Create and analyze platform architecture specifications and implementation tradeoffs to meet cost and performance targets.
  • Define electrical block diagrams, PCB floor-plan, schematic, PCB layout & construction, and platform power budget.
  • Work with platform team to develop, bring-up, and validate Ampere platforms to meet product requirements.
  • Create test plan for the platform design and validate the design by conducting validation activities based on test plan
  • Ensure Ampere platforms comply with all high speed interface specifications
  • Provide engineering support for customers’ questions related to platform architecture and design
  • Drive technology development activities to enable Ampere’s next-gen server processor platforms
What You’ll Bring
  • Minimum of 12 years of server, datacenter, or high-performance computing platform & system architecture development experience across multiple full product life cycles, from concept to HVM mass production
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in server board design and bring-up for high speed interfaces such as DDR/PCIE/GbE/SERDES
  • Experience leading Customer/ODM/CM product developments from definition through manufacturing release
  • Hands-on experience in prototype bring-up and debugging, functional verification, and root cause failure analysis
  • Familiarity with Electromagnetic Compliance (EMI/EMC) is a plus
  • Strong understanding of analog and digital circuit theory and principles
  • Experience with 1U and 2U server layouts and mechanical trade-off studies
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of ARM or similar CPU architecture
  • Strong understanding of General SoC architecture
  • Strong understanding of Multicore processor environment
  • Strong platform design experience with PCI express standard
  • Strong platform design experience with JEDEC standard for DDR memory
  • Experience with electrical simulation tools and models
  • Experience with performance modeling and analysis
Education
  • BS/MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering/Electronics/Computer Science or similar discipline
