Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in supply chain.
  • Experience leading/managing Contract Manufacturers and Original Design Manufacturers.
  • Experience with finance and analytics, and cost modeling.

Preferred qualifications:
  • MBA degree.
  • 10 years of experience in Sourcing, Hardware Manufacturing, or Business Operations.
  • Experience with commercial bring up and management of factory operations in different geographical locations (e.g., India, Southeast Asia, etc.).
  • Experience as a negotiator and establishing and maintaining successful supplier partnerships. Knowledge of various manufacturing models: ODM vs JDM vs CM frameworks.
  • Ability to make choices and implement solutions in ambiguous situations. Ability to travel internationally up to 20% of the time.
  • Excellent leadership and mentoring skills with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement.

About The Job

Commodity Managers work with Engineering teams to make sure Google has the supplies and equipment to put into production the innovative products coming from our Engineering teams. As a Commodity Manager, you use your wide industry knowledge and strategic supplier relationships to optimize our total cost of ownership for our global -- and growing -- infrastructure. The scale at which Google operates means that savings on just one piece of hardware can have a huge impact on Google’s bottom line.

The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world’s most helpful mobile experience. The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the sourcing, selection, contracting, and commercial discussion activities with our external manufacturing partners.
  • Develop cost models for the final assembly and test (FATP) process and lead cost discussions from concepting through end of life.
  • Use your industry knowledge and leverage strategic supplier relationships to optimize the total cost of ownership for our hardware products. Serve as the tactical point of escalation with the partner when an cross-functional stakeholder requires additional issue resolution support.
  • Act as the primary lead for all agreement discussions with the assigned partner.
  • Track and report partner performance through all phases of the product development life cycle, and focus on improving partner capabilities where needed. Act as the supply chain lead to the program development team and drive cost performance across the commodity teams in support of program goals.
