• 5 years of experience in supply chain management, manufacturing, business negotiation, or partner management
• Experience with finance and analytics

Preferred qualifications:

• MBA or advanced degree in business and industrial engineering
• Experience in consumer hardware product development, mass production, connected devices, ambient computing, UWB/LTE, and carrier business
• Experience with negotiation, establishing impactful partnerships, and executive relationship management
• Ability to interpret and draft legal documents, and experience working with legal teams to complete legal agreements and commercial negotiations
• Fluency in Mandarin and familiarity with international business customs
• Ability to travel globally up to 20% of the time

Commodity Managers work with Engineering teams to make sure Google has the supplies and equipment to put into production the innovative products coming from our Engineering teams. As a Commodity Manager, you use your wide industry knowledge and strategic supplier relationships to optimize our total cost of ownership for our global -- and growing -- infrastructure. The scale at which Google operates means that savings on just one piece of hardware can have a huge impact on Google’s bottom line.

Manufacturing Business Management team’s mission is to lead partnerships with deep technical and commercial expertise, harnessing the power of our supply base to achieve innovation, cost, quality, and supply to delight Google Hardware, Nest, and Fitbit users.

In this role, you will manage commercial relationships with Contract Managers/Joint Design Manufacturers (CM/JDMs), and drive sourcing, agreement, commercial, and performance optimization decisions for devices. You will work with Engineering and Operations teams to achieve product cost, schedule, and quality goals throughout the product lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Own the agreement creation process with the cross-functional program needs in mind. Manage assigned manufacturing partners to program requirements in cost, quality, schedule, and technology areas.
• Develop cost models of assemblies and products (i.e. manufacturing value added), and lead discussions from inception to contracting phase; drive continuous cost optimization during mass production.
• Manage Total Cost of Ownership discussions. Support engineering and operations escalations, and drive immediate performance improvement.
• Update and report cost performance and supply chain risk management, and lead executive sessions with CM/JDMs and technology roadshows, and propose periodic cost improvement ideas in terms of design for x or alternative technology choices.
• Develop CM/JDM strategy, and implement supplier management processes with critical partners, and lead the creation and implementation of request for x processes.
