Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with sensor design, integration, or lab work.
  • Experience with signal processing and algorithms to sensor data.

Preferred qualifications:

  • PhD in Engineering with 2 years of industry experience.
  • Experience programming in Python or C (low level drivers for sensors to support data logging).
  • Experience with testing and designing or using Sensor test fixtures.
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following: touch, fingerprint, motion, MEMS, temperature, optical, radar, or chemical sensors.
  • Ability to work with engineering design software (e.g., Cadence, Allegro, Ansys, PSpice, SolidWorks).
  • Ability to travel internationally as needed.

About The Job

As a Sensor Hardware Engineer, you will work on bringing up sensors for products. You will work with the Product teams to create and review engineering requirements specification documents, designs, create circuits, write detailed engineering reports, build prototypes, create Design of Experiments (DoE) to evaluate system performance, support production build abroad, and perform failure analysis and debug. As part of the Sensors team, you will be responsible for creating the sensor systems that meet our product requirements enabling an excellent user experience for our end users.

The Google Nest team focuses on hardware, software and services offerings for the home, ranging from Nest thermostats to Nest smart displays. The Nest team researches, designs, and develops new technologies and hardware to make users’ homes more helpful. Our mission is the helpful home: to create a home that cares for the people inside it and the world around it.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, prototype, validate, and develop testing sensor systems for our products. Evaluate new sensor technologies and identify areas for improvement.
  • Create/Review Analog/Digital Circuit schematics and layout relative to sensors. Write engineering requirements specification and engineering reports for projects.
  • Travel to support hardware builds up to 20% of the time as needed. Examine distributions and set manufacturing limits, and conduct failure analysis and debug of units created at the build.
  • Mentor and train engineers.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Hardware Engineers, Vendors, and the distributed team.
