  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience as a reliability engineer or hardware engineer.
  • Experience with display technology or consumer electronics modules.
  • Experience applying design for reliability techniques (i.e., fault tree analysis, design failure mode and effect analysis, and developing reliability test plans against product metrics).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with display subsystems in consumer hardware.
  • Experience in developing custom tests and test fixtures to replicate observed failure modes.
  • Experience in system integration and/or system design and computational modeling.
  • Experience with failure analysis techniques (i.e., SEM/EDS, Optical Microscopy, X-Ray, FTIR, XPS).
  • Experience with statistical analysis, DOE (design of experiments), reliability modeling and software (i.e., JMP and Weibull++), and acceleration factor calculations

About The Job

As a Hardware Module Reliability Engineer, you will own display reliability projects for consumer electronics applications at Google. You will be responsible for limited planning and executing robust reliability plans to bring out design weakness in various display subsystems and integration of the modules in systems. In this role, you will work with design engineering, test engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to specify tests, and as required supervise test execution. You will focus on reliability test execution at Google as well as display vendors. You will lead vendor communication and engagement for reliability leveraging knowledge of accelerated reliability testing and developing and executing custom tests.

The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world’s most helpful mobile experience. The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

Responsibilities

  • Perform failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) on each project to determine the risks for the project and develop a test plan based on FMEA and alignment with executive members of the team.
  • Develop and implement reliability test procedures and prepare testing procedure documents.
  • Work with suppliers on alignment of reliability specifications and execution of reliability tests as per plans and address the gaps by supplementary test plan to be executed independently.
  • Execute custom test plans for assessing integration risks of the modules into system design and assist model development. Participate in root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions through work with cross-functional teams.
  • Complete statistical data analysis for risk assessments for observed failures. Communicate and drive consensus among cross-functional team members before reporting to executive management to assist risk assessment and test development.
