Minimum qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with LTE or 5G NR protocols development.
  • Experience in modem LTE/NR L2 design, issue analysis, or debugging.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in modem performance analysis and improvement: call performance (CSFB/VoLTE/EPSFB/VoNR), data performance, connectivity performance, thermal/power performance.
  • Experience in cellular protocol stack: control plane, data plane, NAS/RRC/SDAP/PDCP/RLC/MAC/PHY, ENDC, NRDC.
  • Knowledge and experience in 3GPP (e.g., NR, LTE).
  • Understanding of network protocols such as TCP/IP.
  • Ability to learn new technologies, including 3GPP, software development, lab equipment, programming language, etc.
  • Excellent programming skills in C, C++, or Python.

About The Job

The Pixel Mobile Wireless team is responsible for all aspects of cellular performance for Pixel devices, from concept to volume production to post deployment, and for delivering better performance for our users.

In this role, you will help make cellular performance awesome for Pixel phones and for the broader Android ecosystem. You will collaborate with engineers from all across Google to design and execute on design goals for the next generation of Pixel phones.

Responsibilities

  • Develop modem software and verify end-to-end modem feature functionalities and performance to improve user experience, including but not limited to call, voice quality, data, thermal/power, connectivity.
  • Identify modem software performance gaps by analyzing system requirement, design, software implementation, issue analysis, and simulation of real world scenarios.
  • Debug, analyze, and fix modem issues from factory, certification, field and end users.
  • Identify key performance scenarios and recreate the scenario in the lab environment for further research and development for more optimized solutions.
