Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience with development within embedded systems/firmware design.
  • Experience coding in C or C++.
  • Experience with media stack, including decoders, encoders, performance tuning of media stacks, etc.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with Unix/Linux environments and the development of Linux device drivers.
  • Experience in modern video codec (e.g., HEVC, VP9, AV1) algorithm and Android media framework.
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following: embedded systems development/ firmware, operating systems, device drivers, ARM, x86 assembly, system BIOS, or hardware/software integration.

About The Job

As an Embedded Software Engineer at Google, you will have the opportunity to pioneer, develop, and build out our stunning visual experiences. You will investigate, prototype, and implement solutions to achieve the highest quality media possible in software and consumer hardware. You will work in one or more areas of media subsystems including encoding, decoding, media driver in Linux kernel, compression quality and performance, media frameworks, and libraries or other media related technologies on Android.

In this role, you will revolutionize search, and routinely work on massive scalability and storage solutions, large-scale applications, and platforms for developers around the world.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and support Android multimedia features for Pixel devices.
  • Work with Android platform team, Pixel system software team, and Independent Software Vendors to support multimedia features for current and future Pixel devices.
