Job Overview

We are now seeking a UX Engineer to join our Industrial Design and Usability Engineering (ID&UE) team in Taoyuan, Taiwan.

As a UX Engineer specialist, you will support the Global Design team with insights, rational and recommendations regarding User Experience, Human Factors, Ergonomics and Usability-related questions. You will thus contribute to the development of value-adding propositions and unmet user needs to ensure safe and effective development of medical products for patients, healthcare providers, and suppliers in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry.

Applicants shall have empathy for the End User, curiosity for unmet customer needs and passion for tight collaborations with the SHL experts with different competence areas such as, Industrial Design, Usability Engineering, Business Development, Marketing and communication, Mechanical Engineering, Product Management.

You will be part of an International multidisciplinary design team, working closely with our User centered innovative process to be able to define the future value propositions for our products.

The team is based in Sweden and Taiwan with ongoing collaborations with other SHL development teams in Switzerland and the US.

Main Responsibilities

Prepare and carry out product-related Usability Engineering activities in all stages of the product development model, from initial ideas to formative studies.

• Work in close collaboration with Market Analytics, Project and Product Managers, Industrial Design Team, Project Teams (ME, EE, SW, FW, QA, RA, etc.), vendors, and our customers to fulfil the expectations and requirements timely.

• Produce and compile Usability Engineering history files for internal and customer projects according to regulatory requirements and SHL’s QMS of electronic and non-electronic medical devices.

• Be familiar with the authorities’ regulations regarding the Usability Engineering requirements for products for self-injection and electronic medical devices.

• Planning and executing Usability Engineering activities and compile Usability Engineering File to fulfill Usability standard (IEC-62366) requirement.

• Implement and continuously improve SHL’s Usability Engineering Process globally.

• Contribute to the continued development of the Industrial Design and Usability Engineering Team and competency area within SHL.

• Turn research findings into meaningful insights to define the Design Intent of our products.

Skills and Qualification

Master’s degree or Ph.D. in human factors, ergonomics, cognitive psychology, behavioural science, human-computer interaction, information science, communication and technology, or similar qualifications.

• 3 to 5 years of experience in planning and conducting small to large-scale user and usability studies.

• Understanding of product development, Industrial Design process and Design Thinking methodology.

• Expertise conducting ethnographic research, interviewing, participatory design, heuristic evaluations, usability testing, and questionnaire/survey design

• Familiar with Statistic analysis and Qualitative analysis method.

• Open-minded, proactive, persistent, results- and execution-oriented, and able to work under pressure in changing environments.

• Team player and self-starter, able to perform with minimal supervision and engage with multiple disciplinary design teams.

• Fluent English and Mandarin in speech and writing.

What Will Put You Ahead

You have some years of experience in User Experience Research, Usability/ Human Factors Engineering from working within the business of medical devices or pharmaceuticals.

• You have a working knowledge of medical device development processes, design controls, and guidelines like ANSI/AAMI IEC62366-1, ISO 14971, FDA guidance “Applying Human Factors and Usability to Medical Devices”.

• Familiar with tools like Adobe XD, Figma, and Miro
