- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3 years of experience coding with a general purpose programming language (C/C++).
- 3 years of experience in design, implementation, and release of maintainable embedded software systems with power, memory, and computation constraints.
- Experience with optimizing power consumption for battery powered products.
- Experience debugging embedded SW/firmware (e.g. gdb, SWD).
- Experience with RTOS (e.g. FreeRTOS) and Linux platforms (Android or embedded Linux).
- Experience with ARM Cortex-M and Cortex-A class processors.
- Ability to collaborate with internal and external partners.
- Interest in working at the Software/Hardware interface level.

The Google Nest team focuses on hardware, software and services offerings for the home, ranging from Nest thermostats to Nest smart displays. The Nest team researches, designs, and develops new technologies and hardware to make users’ homes more helpful. Our mission is the helpful home: to create a home that cares for the people inside it and the world around it.
Responsibilities
- Develop software at the platform level for new Google Nest products, and support previously shipped products when parts are end-of-life and replacements need to be qualified.
- Bringup new MCUs and SoCs, including areas like secure boot, bootloader, and drivers for MCU peripherals like SPI, I2C, FLASH, PWM, GPIO, DMA, UART, LCD.
- Write drivers for sensors (e.g. temperature, humidity, magnetic, PIR, radar, etc), typically over I2C or SPI.
- Optimize system power (especially for battery powered products), charging when we have rechargeable batteries, and manage overall power consumption.
