About The Job

Google’s software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We’re looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.

Platforms Engineering performs research, design, and development for the hardware, software, and networking technologies that power all of Google’s products and services (e.g., Google Cloud Platform, Tensor Processing Units, Android, Chrome, Gmail, Maps, etc.). We constantly work on solutions to counter the implications of Moore’s Law. Platforms offers impactful projects at every level of the technology stack, from the chip level to distributed systems design and software development.

Machine Management and Monitoring builds the software and infrastructure that provides telemetry and control of Google Data Center hardware, including Accelerators, Servers, Storage, Appliances, Networking and Rack, and Power and Cooling Hardware. This telemetry and control is termed the management control plane.

Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google’s product portfolio possible. We’re proud to be our engineers’ engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, design, implement, and measure next generation reliable and high performance distributed machine monitoring and management software. This may include designing messaging layers, implementing C/C++ libraries, writing system daemons, integrating with open BMC, and system design, analysis, and measurement.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to plan and execute the engineering programs, including product development and productivity improvement.
  • Mentor the team by modeling high standards, providing feedback, and implementing practices to improve productivity.
  • Contribute innovative ideas and skills to the team.
  • Develop technical and product roadmaps, and influence executive decisions. Define and implement the best known practices for multiple teams.

Google is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace and is an affirmative action employer. We are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity or Veteran status.
