About The Job

Google has one of the largest and most powerful computing infrastructures in the world. Your team is responsible for providing the manufacturing capability to deliver this state-of-the-art physical infrastructure. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you evaluate the product designs and create the processes, tools and procedures behind Google’s powerful search technology. When vendors build parts for our infrastructure, you’re right there alongside ensuring manufacturing processes are repeatable and controlled. You collaborate with Commodity Managers and Design Engineers to determine Google’s infrastructure needs and product specifications. Your work ensures the various pieces of Google’s infrastructure fit together perfectly and keep our systems humming along smoothly for a seamless user experience.

Google requires an excellent supply chain to deliver the computer and networking equipment for its ever-expanding global data centers. Our team is made up of engineers and supply chain professionals who design, build, and manage that supply chain. The focus is not just on cost and delivery, but how to best manufacture and sustain Google’s confidential and proprietary internal computer hardware.

As a Product Engineer, you will successfully launch and sustain the processes to support mission critical new products at Contract Manufacturer (CM) and Data Centers (DC). You will build and scale high volume assembly and testing operations. You’ll be a valued partner to the new product development team through your industry knowledge, experience identifying and qualifying advanced manufacturing techniques, and your spot on Design for Manufacturing (DFM) Feedback.

Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google’s product portfolio possible. We’re proud to be our engineers’ engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the product/test requirement for sustaining products, and lead manufacturing readiness by driving deliverables from new product introduction (e.g., capabilities, failure mode and effect analysis, gage repeatability and reproducibility, design for x, stand operating procedure, field replacement unit, failure diagnostics, etc.) to meet mass production requirements before assuming sustaining ownership.
  • Support product qualification builds at CMs and second source part qualification. Coordinate release of sustaining Bill of Material in Product Data Management tool for Engineering Change Order.
  • Lead technical risk assessment for product changes, and work with Product Quality Engineer to validate qualification plans. Work with CM and Googlers to highlight risks and develop mitigation plans.
  • Drive bonepile reduction, improve yield at CM, and reduce return from Google’s Data Centers.
  • Establish and monitor product health indicators at CM and drive continuous improvement.
