About the Role

We are seeking a highly qualified IP counsel to join HTC’s legal team.

The ideal candidate has proven working knowledge and experience handling patent litigation, transaction, and/or licensing.

Responsibilities

  • Manage patent-related proceedings (including litigation, opposition, and/or invalidation), transaction and license negotiations, and provide ongoing case assessment and strategy.
  • Review, negotiate, and prepare a broad range of IP agreements (including patent license, patent sale, confidentiality, joint development, and other commercial agreements) and IP-related provisions.
  • Provide direction and strategy to outside counsel, and ensure work product, result, and cost meet the company’s expectations.
  • Manage legal costs (including review of law firm invoices and budgets to ensure adherence with established guidelines and targets).
  • Perform patent (and portfolio) due diligence, analysis, valuation, and risk assessment.
  • Formulate solutions to complex IP challenges and disputes.
  • Evaluate and advise the company on patent-related risks and risk mitigation strategies.

Qualifications

  • Licensed to practice law in the U.S., Taiwan, and/or China.
  • 6+ years of patent litigation and/or licensing experience at a law firm or in-house.
  • Undergraduate degree in science or engineering.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication (in both English and Mandarin Chinese), analytical, interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and a team player.
  • Ability to communicate complex issues (legal and technical) to all levels of the business.
  • Ability to analyze patent claims, claim charts, and infringement and invalidity assessments.
  • Passion for solving complex IP challenges, and striving for continuous improvement and excellence.
