Local Unit & Position Description

DNV is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Project Civil Engineer to join our Taiwan team. This role will be a contract position in Taipei, Taiwan for an initial engagement of 12 months. He/she shall be the based at the Customer’s premise and working closely with the DNV team providing advisory services.

As the Project Civil Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the various work packages associated with the development of an offshore wind farm and supporting the local and regional team in various renewable advisory services.

Position Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree Civil (Geotechnical) or Structural Engineering
  • Minimum 3 years of structural and / or geotechnical Professional Engineer design experience. Specific experience with offshore and onshore wind turbine foundations, electrical transmission structures and solar photovoltaic mounting structures will be looked upon favourably .
  • Proficiency in a range of international structural design standards, particularly those in common use in the Asia Pacific region (including ACI-318, AISI, etc.)
  • Proficiency in SAP, STAAD (or similar) and other common structural analysis programs
  • Proficiency in CAD software e.g. AutoCAD
  • Experience reviewing geotechnical site investigation reports and laboratory test results
  • Understanding of typical design and construction methods for construction of large reinforced concrete structures
  • Proven HSE mindset and demonstrated behaviour-based safety mentality
  • Able to work independently, and make independent decisions when called for
  • Able to work with a geographically diverse team, within the APAC region and internationally
  • Maintain a flexible schedule and be able to keep in contact with international offices.
  • Must be able to meet the requirements to drive for company business
  • Willingness and ability to travel, up to 30% of the time
  • Strong written and verbal Chinese and English communication skills

Job activities will include:

  • Owner’s Engineering and project development support
  • Conduct detailed technical review and independent assessment of civil construction documentation including:
    • Plans and specifications
    • Design calculations and studies
    • Construction submittals
    • Test documentation
    • QA/QC documentation
    • Inspection and Test Plans
    • Foundation drawings and calculations
    • Geotechnical reports;
    • Ground improvement recommendations and documentation;
    • Seismic hazard analyses;
    • Liquefaction hazard evaluation, reconsolidation and mitigation recommendations.
  • Conduct construction monitoring inspections of projects to verify compliance with:
    • Construction plans and specifications, geotechnical reports
    • Applicable code requirements and standards and good construction practice
  • Develop conceptual designs and technical specifications, manage and review proposals, and support contract negotiations on behalf of clients
  • Support Construction Management activities through monitoring/management of costs, progress, contract interface, and quality programs, and facilitation of construction problem resolution
  • Write detailed reports of reviews and inspections
  • Evaluation and Root Cause Analyses of wind and solar farm structural and geotechnical failures
  • Evaluation of pre-market design concepts for Wind and Solar Energy structural support systems
