Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience in embedded development.
  • Experience in C or C++ programming.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a technical related field.
  • 2 years of experience working with embedded operating systems.
  • Experience with SQL for analyzing large data collections.
  • Experience with power management of embedded mobile devices and hardware subsystems, including application processor, multimedia, GPU, modem, and WiFi.
  • Experience with optimizing software for power and performance improvements.
  • Knowledge of Linux kernel, Android system, and embedded software system design.

The Pixel System Power team owns the battery life aspect of the Pixel system software, which is a problem that straddles both software and hardware domains. We work with teams spanning the entire software and hardware stack to define, prototype, optimize, and bring the consumer devices software solutions that deliver awesome battery life and user experiences.

As part of the Pixel Systems Power group, you will focus on power and performance aspects of the software design, data flow analysis, and improve the battery-life experiences of users. You will also be responsible for coordinating efforts with teams across Android platforms, applications, and hardware teams to ensure great battery life for Pixel devices.

The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world’s most helpful mobile experience. The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

Responsibilities

  • Work with cross-functional hardware and software teams to model power consumption and define power goals.
  • Analyze and optimize the software running across the key components of the chipset (SoC) like CPU, GPU, Memory Subsystem, and Connectivity.
  • Debug and resolve battery drain issues.
  • Collaborate with Android app teams across Google to help them optimize power.
  • Develop tools and tests for validating and monitoring power consumption.
