Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with working experience in cellular wireless (such as LTE, 5GNR) and WIFI (802.11ac, 802.11ax) or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with LTE/5GNR PHY/MAC and/or upper layer stacks.
  • Experience with wireless based-band and signal processing algorithms.
  • Experience in multi-antenna/MIMO system design.

Preferred qualifications:
  • 5 years of experience on modem baseband architecture including hardware/software partitioning, tradeoff analysis and low power mode optimization.
  • Experience in using C, MATLAB or Python for wireless link level or system level simulation.
  • Demonstrated experience to effectively lead cross-functional teams of hardware and software engineers to launch wireless solutions.
  • Knowledge of 5GNR MIMO/mmWave/phased-array beamforming and machine learning/deep learning.
  • Solid understanding of wireless communication standards (L1/L2/L3), end to end product design and implementation (including but not limited to 5GNR, LTE).
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to develop detailed system architecture design.

You will join wireless experts on the Pixel team and help make cellular performance awesome for Pixel phones and for the broader Android ecosystem.

The Pixel modem team is responsible for all aspects of cellular performance for Pixel devices, from concept to volume production to post deployment, and for delivering exceptional performance for our users.

In this highly cross-functional role, you will collaborate with engineers from all across Google to design and execute on design goals for the next generation of Pixel phones. As a Cellular Systems Engineer, you will drive end-to-end deliverables across the entire product life cycle including defining products, driving modem architecture, implementing features, debugging issues, and optimizing performance.

Responsibilities

  • Work with cross-functional hardware, software and systems teams to define and architect cellular products and system-level specifications.
  • Analyze, model, and set cellular modem system performance and power targets.
  • Derive new system algorithms for smart phone radio performance and power optimization.
  • Propose and drive implementation of innovative new optimization features across hardware and software.
