Duties
- Using theoretical analysis, finite element analysis, and experimental testing to conduct magnetic circuit design and optimization for motors, Magnetorquers as well as the satellite structure.
- Perform feasibility assessments of electrical and mechanical specifications for motors and Magnetorquer products.
- Research similar magnetic circuit designs through academic literature and industry technical documents, and propose appropriate magnetic circuit designs based on product requirements. Also, explore new methods and technologies for the products under development.
- Evaluate and source suitable magnetic materials and suppliers, and verify their parameters and characteristics.
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers and suppliers to coordinate structural considerations and magnetic considerations. Work together with mechanical engineers to design and optimize reliable and manufacturable products.
- Research suitable methods or testing equipment for validating product magnetic circuit designs and collaborate with mechanical engineers to develop measurement tools and fixtures.
- Design verification methods for product magnetic circuits and collaborate with Assembly, Integration, and Test Engineers (AIT) to establish Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for Quality Check (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) of products.
- Write design and specification documents and compile and record data from experiments and tests.
- Develop mathematical models for magnetic field design and communicate with firmware and hardware engineers regarding motor drive methods and motor driver design and verification techniques.
Required Qualifications
- Familiarity with magnetic field design and optimization methods for permanent magnet synchronous motors, with the ability to analyze and evaluate electrical and mechanical specifications.
- Proficiency in the drive and control mechanisms of permanent magnet synchronous motors.
- Knowledge of permanent magnets, magnetic materials, and coil characteristics, as well as manufacturing constraints.
- Experience in finite element analysis of motor magnetic fields.
- Ability to read and write technical documents in English.
- Proficiency in operating 3D CAD mechanical design software.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in numerical simulations or scientific computations using Matlab, Python, or C++.
- Experience in 3D magnetic circuit analysis using finite element methods.
- Experience in optimizing structural and thermal performance, and ability to analyze and validate them through theory, finite element analysis, and experiments.
- Understanding of special considerations and design requirements for space components, such as vacuum, radiation, and micro-vibration factors.
