Google welcomes people with disabilities.

Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in FEA simulation (e.g., magnetic field propagation, mechanical stress/strain simulation, thermal analysis, vibration analysis).
  • Experience in magnetic field interaction and metal material selection, mechanical and thermal stress/strain propagation on printed circuit board (PCB), and sensor technology.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or related field.
  • 10 years of experience with FEA simulation (e.g., magnetic field propagation (due to fixed magnetic sources/electric currents), mechanical stress/strain simulation, thermal analysis, vibration analysis).
  • Experience with sensor calibration processes/data processing algorithms, and knowledge of flex/PCB surface mount/assembly process.
  • Knowledge of Motion sensor hardware including Inertial Measurement Unit (Accelerometer/Gyroscope), Magnetometer, Hall sensor, and Barometer sensors.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB) and software development languages (e.g., C, C++).
  • Familiarity with high-volume consumer product development, manufacturing test, and qualification.

About the jobOur computational challenges are so big, complex and unique we can’t just purchase off-the-shelf hardware, we’ve got to make it ourselves. Your team designs and builds the hardware, software and networking technologies that power all of Google’s services. As a Hardware Engineer, you design and build the systems that are the heart of the world’s largest and most powerful computing infrastructure. You develop from the lowest levels of circuit design to large system design and see those systems all the way through to high volume manufacturing. Your work has the potential to shape the machinery that goes into our cutting-edge data centers affecting millions of Google users.

With your technical expertise, you lead projects in multiple areas of expertise (i.e., engineering domains or systems) within a data center facility, including construction and equipment installation/troubleshooting/debugging with vendors.

Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Our Devices & Services team combines the best of Google AI, Software, and Hardware to create radically helpful experiences for users. We research, design, and develop new technologies and hardware to make our user’s interaction with computing faster, seamless, and more powerful. Whether finding new ways to capture and sense the world around us, advancing form factors, or improving interaction methods, the Devices & Services team is making people’s lives better through technology.

Responsibilities

  • Generate Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulations to model magnetic components and/or current sources to optimize integration of magnetic sensor components into consumer hardware products.
  • Work with internal cross-functional engineering teams and external partners to ensure sensor components will remain within spec (i.e. despite coexistence from other components/modules).
  • Aid with sensor validation, failure analysis, and drive corrective actions through simulation for ongoing sensor issues.
  • Document, organize, and clearly communicate your results to both internal and external engineering teams.
  • Generate FEA to model mechanical stress/strain/thermals/vibrations to optimize integration of Micro-Electro-Mechanical-System (MEMS) based motion sensor components into the consumer hardware products.
