Company Overview

KLA is a global leader in diversified electronics for the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem. Virtually every electronic device in the world is produced using our technologies. No laptop, smartphone, wearable device, voice-controlled gadget, flexible screen, VR device or smart car would have made it into your hands without us. KLA invents systems and solutions for the manufacturing of wafers and reticles, integrated circuits, packaging, printed circuit boards and flat panel displays. The innovative ideas and devices that are advancing humanity all begin with inspiration, research and development. KLA focuses more than average on innovation and in 2019 we invested 15% of sales back into R&D. Our expert teams of physicists, engineers, data scientists and problem-solvers work together with the world’s leading technology providers to accelerate the delivery of tomorrow’s electronic devices. Life here is exciting and our teams thrive on tackling really hard problems. There is never a dull moment with us.

Group/Division

EBeam’s mission encapsulates its role as the “eyes” of KLA’s product line, providing timely information on defects and critical locations on the wafer at the highest spatial resolution possible. Customers use EBeam products alongside KLA’s patterned and bare wafer inspectors to quickly understand the nature of defects and other imperfections on product wafers and take corrective action in the manufacturing process.

Roles and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be part of the Systems Engineering team that is responsible for development, integration and characterization of our tools. Major sub-systems of our tools include among others electron sources, detectors, electro-optical components, vacuum related equipment, high voltage electronics, signal & image processing, high performance computers and sophisticated machine control SW. This position is located at a customer site and the main task is to to aid in and drive complex technical system development and problem solving. To be successful, the candidate must have detailed understanding of the entire system and all sub-system level interactions.

  • Be the liaison between the systems engineering team and other KLA functional groups such as the customer support group and the applications team.
  • Coordinate with the rest of the systems engineering team to design multidisciplinary experiments aimed at optimizing system performance overall and for customer specific use cases.
  • Drive execution of these experiments at the customer site. This will typically require coordination with the customer and with our applications team to collect the necessary data, which might also require light programming/scripting in languages such as Python.
  • Analyze results and draw relevant conclusions
  • Interpret system level logs and errors and their impact on system performance and availability. As needed provide guidance to the customer support team to help resolving tool issues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A physics background and experience dealing with complex systems.
  • Knowledge of optical/electro-optical systems such as electron microscopes or machine vision systems
  • Knowledge of python scripting for data collection and advanced analysis and visualization.
  • Good technical problem-solving ability through Design of Experiments.
  • Team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Fluent in English.

Minimum Qualifications: typically include a Ph.D. in either physics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or other relevant field. Alternatively, a Masters degree with a minimum of four years of relevant experience is also acceptable.
