Come be part of our great team!Organizational Function And ResponsibilitiesThis position is responsible for instruction in the Fire Services at the college level. This includes developing a relevant and progressive curriculum, designing and implementing effective learning strategies and environments, delivering instruction of high quality, assessing student learning, advising students, and participating in college service activities at the department, division and college levels.This position reports to the Associate Dean - School of Human and Protective Services.Essential DutiesThe following duties are typically expected of this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.- Responsible for facilitating student learning in the Fire Services program.
- Develop and plan appropriate instructional strategies and alternative delivery strategies when appropriate including but not limited to hybrid, face-to-face and on-line course delivery.
- Assist and advise students who have problems with assignments, tests, grades, course content, career concerns, and other academic matters.
- Evaluate student performance and provide regular feedback in courses taught by the instructor.
- Use data to continually revise curriculum to improve student learning.
- Actively work with other personnel in student recruitment, retention and job placement. This includes developing strategies aimed at the recruitment and retention of minority students.
- Develop and maintain curriculum in a variety of non-traditional formats to meet student delivery needs in collaboration with department/ division staff; participate in instructional and curriculum articulation activities with other programs, other Schools of the College, other colleges and universities, and District K-12 partners.
- Function without direct supervision in a team environment with the ability to support a cohesive department atmosphere.
- Comply with college policies and directions regarding student testing, record keeping, advanced standing, providing grades on a timely basis, maintaining office hours for student assistance and counseling, etc.
- Assist students in developing work experience assignments such as clinical affiliations, work study assignments, team projects, etc.
- Design and implement strategies to engage students in the learning process.
- Integrate the use of technology into the teaching and learning process.
- Attend School, program and advisory committee meetings; participate in appropriate staff development activities such as diversity awareness, technology training, etc.
- Plan and implement professional development strategies to continually improve teaching and professional experience.
- Maintain competencies as an instructor as aligned with the Faculty Quality Assurance System.
- Maintain ESI Certification with the WTCS .
- Demonstrate a commitment to the college’s mission, vision and values.
- Knowledge of current educational methods and strategies; learner-centered instruction, active learning, assessment, evaluation; collaborative techniques; and strategies that address closing the gap in student access and achievement across race, gender, and disability.
- Skill in the use of educational technology and alternative delivery methods to deliver high-quality instruction (i.e., online, hybrid, and accelerated course formats, course software such as Blackboard, video, Telepresence, etc).
- Skill in communications and human relations with populations having diverse socio-economic and racial backgrounds, as well as individuals with disabilities.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Ability to interact with business, industry, other educational institutions, and government agencies to establish partnerships.
- Knowledge of and experience in coursework and teaching in specific areas related to the Fire Services program.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited public or private institution.
- Two (2) years (6000 hours) of related work experience.
- One (1) year (2,000 hours) of related work experience must be within the past five (5) years.
- Two (2) years of full-time equivalent teaching experience in a related area at an accredited college within the past five (5) years may be substituted for the one (1) year of related work experience within the past five (5) years.
- Certified Wisconsin Emergency Services Instructor ( ESI ) with the Wisconsin Technical College System ( WTCS ).
