Google welcomes people with disabilities.

Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience with embedded system design (i.e. component selection, schematic design and capture, layout tools).
  • Experience with design and layout for low-noise linear and switching power supply circuits, and serial interfaces.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience with substrate design and material selection for camera applications.
  • Experience with camera/optics technology, and CMOS image sensors interfaces (i.e. MIPI D-PHY and C-PHY).
  • Experience using Ansys 3D solvers for signal integrity and power delivery network (PDN) analysis with knowledge of layout strategies for EMI minimization, signal integrity, and low noise.
  • Knowledge of engineering concepts (i.e., device behavior, data analysis, systems modeling).
  • Knowledge of interconnect technology for camera substrate (e.g., ceramic, rigid/regular flex, rigid board).
  • Excellent documentation skills.

About The Job

Our computational challenges are so big, complex and unique we can’t just purchase off-the-shelf hardware, we’ve got to make it ourselves. Your team designs and builds the hardware, software and networking technologies that power all of Google’s services. As a Hardware Engineer, you design and build the systems that are the heart of the world’s largest and most powerful computing infrastructure. You develop from the lowest levels of circuit design to large system design and see those systems all the way through to high volume manufacturing. Your work has the potential to shape the machinery that goes into our cutting-edge data centers affecting millions of Google users.

The Image Sensor and Camera Electrical Engineering team focuses on design and evaluation of camera systems for Google’s consumer hardware.

In this role, you will explore new imaging sensors, cameray system hardware, and applications to help bring the best photography experience to our users. You will work with our partners in Technical Engineering, as well as cross-functionally with the Android Software and Augmented Perception teams to bring immersive imaging features to Google products.

Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Our Devices & Services team combines the best of Google AI, Software, and Hardware to create radically helpful experiences for users. We research, design, and develop new technologies and hardware to make our user’s interaction with computing faster, seamless, and more powerful. Whether finding new ways to capture and sense the world around us, advancing form factors, or improving interaction methods, the Devices & Services team is making people’s lives better through technology.

Responsibilities

  • Manage component requirements and develop/review schematic designs for camera module-related circuits containing image sensors, microcontrollers, low-noise power supplies, and high-speed serial interfaces.
  • Work with vendors and teams developing camera module circuits to ensure correct operation over the specified voltage and temperature ranges.
  • Lead schematics/layout design for flex/rigid/rigid-flex fab assemblies and substrate.
  • Review layout, Design for Manufacturing (DFM), and design reports to sign-off on fab/board/substrate build activity and electrical engineering validation testing.
  • Analyze camera module performance/noise data and create appropriate documentation for sharing information with broader team.
