Job description

Director of Hardware Engineering position in the fast-paced and dynamic Architecture Group at ID Tech. You will be involved in planning and directing all aspects of EE Hardware Engineering activities within the organization to deliver robust, reliable, and cost optimized, products. You will manage the EE resources at all ID Tech offices through remote subordinate team managers and local hardware engineering resources. You must have a deep hands-on knowledge of, and be responsible for, the Hardware Architecture Design within the broader System Architecture Department. You will manage resource capabilities and schedules, ensure the company’s development processes are adhered to, and review and sign-off on all design implementations. The position will also require the creation of test procedures and engineering guidelines to build on and improve the company’s engineering processes. This is a highly visible position, as you will be overseeing a global team of hardware engineers and reporting directly to the Vice President of Global Engineering. Ability to

  • Provide technical guidance and support for EE hardware engineering and ensure that best practice engineering methods are utilized, in all hardware engineering projects, processes, design reviews, and issue resolutions, and are in conformance with the organization’s established policies and objectives
  • Create functional strategies, specific objectives, and tools training for the Hardware Engineering department and develop budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure
  • Develop relationships with component companies, CMs, JDMs, ODMs, fabricators, and certification labs to help design, fabricate, validate, certify, manufacture, install, and repair the company’s products
  • Resolve escalated issues arising from Operations and requiring coordination with other departments
  • Work closely with Supply Chain leadership to negotiate component pricing and assurance of supply
  • Travel to world-wide locations to resolve engineering issues and train resources

Hands-on experience with many of the following electronic system devices;

  • 16-bit or 32-bit ARM Core Processors or Secure Microcontrollers
  • Standard and Low Power DRAM Memory, and NAND Memory
  • MIPI or RGB LCD and Capacitive Touch Panel Module
  • Wireless Radio Modules such as BT, WiFi, and LTE
  • DC/DC Switching Power Supplies and LDOs
  • USB Hubs, Muxes, and Power Delivery
  • 10/100 Ethernet PHYs
  • RS-232 Transceivers
  • Embedded Cameras
  • Audio CODECs

Hands-on experience with many of the following tools used to support product verification

  • Serial Protocol Analyzers
  • Digital Oscilloscopes
  • Spectrum Analyzers
  • IR Thermometers
  • Electronic Loads
  • ESD Guns

Hands-on experience with any of the following payment acceptance devices is considered a plus

  • Magnetic Stripe Reader
  • Contact-based Smart Card Reader
  • Contactless-based Smart Card Reader
  • Camera-based QR Code Reader

Experience with any of the following items is considered a plus

  • Android-based Test Applications
  • Wireless Carrier Compliance Testing
  • ESD, EMC, UL, or FCC Compliance Testing
  • Payment Card Industry (PCI) Physical Security Evaluations
  • Terminal Quality Management (TQM) Compliance Documentation

Travel

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
  • 3-6 years of related experience
