About The Job

As a member of a fast-paced multi-disciplinary team, you use your creativity and diverse range of engineering experience to explore solutions to a variety of engineering problems. As a mechanical engineer, you participate in the design, analysis, and prototyping of new concepts. You work in a manufacturing and product oriented development environment and collaborate with vendors and outside sources in order to see parts through to manufacture.

You’ll be supporting Thermal and Product Design Engineers in Google’s Nest team through testing, fixture design troubleshooting and prototyping. Thermal validation is one of the key validations that tie performance of the product from both hardware and software perspectives. You will thrive in ambiguous environments, take pride in working with top notch teams and contribute to the cross-functional product development efforts.

Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Our Devices & Services team combines the best of Google AI, Software, and Hardware to create radically helpful experiences for users. We research, design, and develop new technologies and hardware to make our user’s interaction with computing faster, seamless, and more powerful. Whether finding new ways to capture and sense the world around us, advancing form factors, or improving interaction methods, the Devices & Services team is making people’s lives better through technology.

Responsibilities

  • Develop test methods and processes based on communications and feedback with cross-functional teams (e.g., thermal design, product design, and software staff). Document and analyze thermal test results using spreadsheets and documents apps for data analysis and reporting.
  • Instrument thermocouples, setup, and execute thermal tests of products, mockups, thermal modules, battery packs, and thermal materials in natural convection chambers.
  • Flash devices with required software and execute test scripts. Measure power on systems under test conditions.
  • Maintain, design, upgrade, and build lab equipment, space, tools and inventory of lab consumables.
  • Support product development activities such as prototype part fit checks, tear downs, and oversee 3D printing.
