Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5 years of experience in consumer oriented products including 2 years of experience working on display
  • Experience with display related products (cover glass, touch, OLED, FPC, etc.)
  • Experience with 3D Mechanical CAD tool

Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience with Flexible/Curve/OLED display ME design
  • Experience 2.5D/3D shaped cover glass shaping, surface coating, ink printing, and lamination
  • Experience with: Tolerance Analysis, Statistical Analysis, Design of Experiments, FEA, Thermal Design, DFMEA, DFA, etc.
  • Familiar with display manufacturing process (FPC bonding/CG lamination)
  • Failure analysis ability on glass crack/display defect issue

About The Job

As a Product Design Engineer, you will help design displays for Google’s devices. You will be a member of the display development team and be responsible for all mechanical aspects of the custom display design. You will work cross-functionally with the device mechanical design teams to integrate the display into the system. You will work directly with the display suppliers to develop a deep understanding of their design rules and manufacturing process to assist with critical design decisions and root cause of any design or production issues that come up. You will have the opportunity to make an impact on the products we develop while also learning from our highly experienced team.

Responsibilities

  • Work with cross-functional teams to create display CAD and its sub-components with ownership of display mechanical engineering (ME) design rule and specification in collaboration with the display team, device teams, and vendors.
  • Conduct feasibility studies to design for mechanical robustness, schedule, and cost with the analysis for predictable and successful system integration.
  • Participate in cross functional design review to work directly with display suppliers, and oversee internal and external prototyping.
  • Drive display suppliers for ME issue resolving, define visual quality requirements, and qualify displays by collaborating with local/oversea manufacturing teams.
  • Work directly with partners in support of system assembly build, conduct design of experiments (DOE), drive CM for failure root cause analysis and corrective action implementation as a result of build and reliability testing.
