Summary

We are looking for a world class optical engineer to join a team that is making a difference in the future of Apple. A successful candidate will not only need to identify new optical characterization techniques, and architect custom optical test systems, but also educate a broad audience of people at Apple about their benefits and tradeoffs. The team features a broad engineering roster including optical engineers, human perception experts, product design engineers, and experimental physicists, which presents a unique opportunity to influence and learn from a diverse group of experts.

Key Qualifications

Prior experience with building optical measurement setups, and performing hands-on measurements, preferably for imaging optics applications
Capable of prototyping, conducting design of experiments, and analytical data processing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience managing domestic and international vendors
2+ years of industry experience in related fields

Description

Identify novel optical test and characterization techniques to measure key performance metrics of sophisticated and novel optical systems
Use polarization optics or wave optics simulation tools to architect polarization sensitive optical system
Build custom metrology hardware and perform hands-on measurements in the lab
Use geometrical optics or wave-optics simulation tools to architect new characterization systems and to assess their expected performance and limitations
Identify and implement optical metrics and specifications to deliver performance that matter to customer perception.
Work with suppliers to develop and bring up optical test platforms, perform statistical analysis of data to resolve optical performance and quality
Travel to suppliers (up to 20%) to support engineering builds, and help with failure analysis activities

Education & Experience

M.S. or Ph.D. in Physics, Optical Sciences or EE
