Mastercard is searching for an experienced commercial lawyer to be a member of a highly skilled international markets global team supporting Mastercard’s regional initiatives in Greater China Area. This full-time role is based in Taipei reporting to the Managing Regional Counsel for Greater China Area.RoleResponsibilities IncludeThis role requires the provision of high-quality advice to the business on a broad range of commercial, contractual and operational matters that impact Mastercard’s business focusing on Greater China Area with the potential to support projects outside of Greater China Area. Accordingly, the role includes legal, commercial and strategic dimensions.
  • Review and negotiate various commercial contracts with FI and non-FI customers and merchants, including government bodies;
  • Support market level legal scans for Mastercard products and initiatives;
  • Support merger & acquisition and joint venture activities;
  • Support applications for regulatory licenses and approvals when applicable;
  • Monitor regulatory developments for on-going compliance with applicable laws and regulations and advise on local law;
  • Advise on employment related matters;
  • Oversight/coordinate company corporate secretarial services in collaboration with legal service team;
  • Assist with issues related to data privacy, anti-trust, intellectual property, technology, etc. in cooperation with regional/global experts;
  • Instruct and manage external legal advisors as required;
  • Support disputes and litigation cases;
  • Develop agreement templates and conduct local/regional legal trainings; and
  • Assist country management teams to manage legal and commercial risks.
All About You
  • Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor from an established and reputable law school.
  • Qualified to practice law in Taiwan or Hong Kong or other jurisdiction.
  • Fluency in Mandarin and English.
  • Post-qualification experience of 5-8 years with minimum experience of 3-5 years in a reputable law firm and in house experience in an MNC in Greater China Area will be viewed favorably.
  • Knowledge of banking or financial services industry: ideally cards, payments will be viewed favorably.
  • Quick learner, stress resistant, ability to grasp complex new business concepts, good commercial acumen and creative approach to problem-solving.
  • Willing to work under pressure and enjoys having a diverse coverage.
  • Experience working independently and as part of a high performing team.
  • Must be able to strike a balance between the two principal objectives of being a facilitator to the business and protecting the interests of the company.
  • Must be able to contribute and operate effectively within a diverse multicultural organization.
