The Data department oversees all of Agoda’s data-related requirements. Our ultimate goal is to enable and increase the use of data in the company through creative approaches and the implementation of powerful resources such as operational and analytical databases, queue systems, BI tools, and data science technology. The role the Data team plays at Agoda is critical as business users, product managers, engineers, and many others rely on us to empower their decision making. We are equally dedicated to our customers by improving their search experience with faster results and protecting them from any fraudulent activities. Data is interesting only when you have enough of it, and we have plenty. This is what drives up the challenge as part of the Data department, but also the reward.

The Opportunity:

Join us in the team that handles our Data Lake, a crucial platform that serves a wide range of business critical needs and applications… from being used to train ML models for user-facing applications, to enabling reporting and monitoring, to empowering Product Owners to do research and experimentation hypothesis…. The data lake is the very heart of our data-driven culture and spans hundreds of servers across multiple data centers at tens of PB scale.

We are looking for a top notch Manager to lead a small passionate DevOps team in designing, building, deploying (and probably debugging) our next generation Data Lake. Our ideal candidates are experienced DevOps managers who master technology to the point where you can make a trade off and decide when to use which technology to push our platform forward.

We believe that managers should be professionals at technology, should be able to jump into any project and understand the bits & bolts of the technologies their teams use. If you are one of those people that don’t want to “just manage” and still excited about building things along with building teams, you will fit very well here. 

In this Role, you’ll get to:
  • Lead a team of DevOps Engineers
  • Drive design, architecture and development of Agoda’s next generation Data Lake 
  • Drive the execution of the team toward the vision. Visionary and pragmatic. 
  • Grow and coach team members. Always challenging theteam to higher performance. 
Technologies we love
  • Big Data technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Presto,Alluxio, Kafka)
  • S3 Compatible Object Storage technologies (minIO, Ceph)
What you’ll Need to Succeed:
  • 4+years’ experience in Administering large (PB scale) Hadoop Cluster Deployments
  • At least 2years’ experience in a leadership/influencer position: manager or architect
  • Good to Expert level knowledge of Linux
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills, understanding of system capacity, bottlenecks, basics of memory, CPU, OS, storage and networks
  • Solid Coder with software development experienceagainst a mix of the above-mentioned technologies we love
  • Proficient in Java, Scala(and Golang is a plus)
It’s Great if you have:
  • Experience with running Data Lakes on Cloud is a plus
