Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or business related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in operations/supply chain management/manufacturing and/or operations development/engineering.
  • Experience with hardware bill of materials/cost drivers, process documentation and assembly, and test processes.
  • Experience in hardware operations.

Preferred qualifications:
  • MBA or Master’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, or relevant field.
  • Experience managing agreements with partners and third-party suppliers.
  • Experience with Electrical and/or Electro-Mechanical commodities like Display, Battery, printed circuit board and Connectors in either a sourcing, quality management, manufacturing, or engineering role.
  • Experience managing supplier ramp for large scale consumer electronics programs.
  • Ability to take initiative, work well under pressure, and reach goals.
  • Excellent analytical, quantitative, problem-solving, creativity, and strategic skills.

About The Job

Commodity Managers work with Engineering teams to make sure Google has the supplies and equipment to put into production the innovative products coming from our Engineering teams. As a Commodity Manager, you use your wide industry knowledge and strategic supplier relationships to optimize our total cost of ownership for our global -- and growing -- infrastructure. The scale at which Google operates means that savings on just one piece of hardware can have a huge impact on Google’s bottom line.

In this role, you will be working on the custom supply chain for consumer devices. You will execute the team’s material acquisition strategy, and work closely with the US Global Supply Managers (GSM) and engineering teams to ensure material availability and technology implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional teams within Google and with external partners to prepare for production ramp and product transition from development to mass production. Manage relationships and escalations from both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Drive cross-functional teams to optimize the supply chain for specific strategic reasons, accounting for risks and changes in schedule or demand. Anticipate production and operational risks, including cost impacts.
  • Drive manufacturing operational readiness of suppliers, including planning long-term forecasts, purchase order readiness, daily production plans (IOS), capacity plans, and clear to build.
  • Review production results, critical production/yield issues, and drive resolution with cross-functional teams. Communicate risks and own mitigation plans for line bring-up, qualification, material availability, quality issues, etc.
  • Facilitate costs with the suppliers through competitive bidding, should cost modeling, and business/technical acumen.
