About The Job

Our computational challenges are so big, complex and unique we can’t just purchase off-the-shelf hardware, we’ve got to make it ourselves. Your team designs and builds the hardware, software and networking technologies that power all of Google’s services. As a Hardware Engineer, you design and build the systems that are the heart of the world’s largest and most powerful computing infrastructure. You develop from the lowest levels of circuit design to large system design and see those systems all the way through to high volume manufacturing. Your work has the potential to shape the machinery that goes into our cutting-edge data centers affecting millions of Google users.

Pulling on your technical and leadership expertise, you lead end-to-end research projects in multiple areas of expertise across data center facilities and manage a team of direct reports working on equipment installation, troubleshooting and debugging.

As the Camera Optics System Design Manager, you will work with cross-functional teams to build the Pixel phone cameras’ optical systems which integrate both Google’s computational photography algorithms and hardware technologies. You will lead the optical system architecture design and development from concept to high volume manufacturing. In this role, you will drive definition, design, development, and integration of high-quality camera optics for Google’s consumer products. You’ll have the responsibility of the entire lifecycle of the project, including both technology and product development with multiple third-party vendors. You will define design, testing, and qualification plans of camera optics systems at different stages of the development, from concept to product ramp.

The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world’s most helpful mobile experience. The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

Responsibilities

  • Perform imaging optics system design, modeling, and simulation to advance the next-generation 2D and 3D imaging systems and technology.
  • Perform lens design and development from feasibility design to mass production.
  • Devise test and validation plans of the optical components, and define engineering performance specifications for these components.
  • Drive optical component suppliers to co-develop high quality optical components through the entire product development lifecycle from proto to mass production.
  • Travel to vendor facilities as required.
