• Specific job responsibilities will depend upon the active project and may include but are not limited to:
• Design, develop, and implement advanced process controls solutions for manufacturing processes.
• Evaluate existing process control strategies and propose and develop enhancements; this could be enhancing PID control-based strategies with cascade control, feedforward, gainscheduling, etc. or applying a different, more-suitable model-based control algorithm (i.e., model predictive control, internal model control, etc.).
• Work closely with manufacturing to define appropriate hardware and software platforms for implementing process control solutions.
• Leverage process controls skill set to implement solutions in existing PLC/DCS environments.
• Develop in-depth knowledge of existing processes to identify process control opportunities and write proposals to initiate controls projects.
• Work with process subject matter experts and apply data analytics/machine learning to gain fundamental process understanding.
• Lead projects and work in a multi-disciplinary research, development, and engineering environment to identify opportunities for advanced controls.
• Facilitate the transfer of new process control into manufacturing and provide training to manufacturing and engineering personnel.
• Develop a strong network of stakeholders across all Gorilla Glass manufacturing and engineering locations, research and development, Manufacturing, Technology and Engineering (MT&E), other Corning business units, and key vendors.
• Provide electrical and controls engineering expertise in support of new equipment & system introductions, continuous improvements, cost reductions, maintenance, and productivity improvements.
• Interface with external system integrators and machine builders to successfully deliver fully integrated automation equipment to Corning’s plants on-time, on-budget, and that satisfy performance measures.
• Actively participate / direct all phases of the project including design, fabrication, installation, production start-up support, training of plant personnel and technology transfer.
• Internal subject matter expert in control systems (PLC, HMI, Motion Control Systems, Machine Vision), system integration, sensors and electro-mechanical devices.
• Ensure all controls engineering projects are documented properly with electrical drawing packages conforming to Corning standards.
• Work with project team to solve automation problems, resolve project related issues, and develop fundamental understanding of technical / process requirements critical to system success
• Develop control architectures and system integration requirements that will satisfy process and manufacturing requirements.
• ndividual must be capable of executing project assignments as well as managing projects, in a team-based environment, with minimal supervision.
  

• B.S. / BS in Electrical Engineering or related engineering field (mechanical, automation, controls).
• Ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 5-7 years of electrical / controls experience in a technical field to include:
• Designing and implementing automation solutions in a manufacturing environment
• Experience programming PLC’s and implementing HMI’s
  

• Knowledge of machine controls / programming methods, systems, production processes, data systems, measurements and instrumentation.
• Demonstrated track record of engineering accomplishments, organizational leadership and people development .
• Strong Project Management skills
• Ability to generate, debug and modify PLC code - both ladder logic and structured text.
• Knowledge of closed loop control systems and PID tuning.
• Sound understanding of AC/DC electrical theory, and practical application thereof.
• Experience in Robotics programming
