About The Job

Our computational challenges are so big, complex and unique we can’t just purchase off-the-shelf hardware, we’ve got to make it ourselves. Your team designs and builds the hardware, software and networking technologies that power all of Google’s services. As a Hardware Engineer, you design and build the systems that are the heart of the world’s largest and most powerful computing infrastructure. You develop from the lowest levels of circuit design to large system design and see those systems all the way through to high volume manufacturing. Your work has the potential to shape the machinery that goes into our cutting-edge data centers affecting millions of Google users.

With your technical expertise, you lead projects in multiple areas of expertise (i.e., engineering domains or systems) within a data center facility, including construction and equipment installation/troubleshooting/debugging with vendors.

As a Connectivity RF Hardware Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and integrating high quality wireless subsystems for the wide variety of Google Nest products. You will ensure the quality and reliability of wireless communication between devices, as well as ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.

The Google Nest team focuses on hardware, software and services offerings for the home, ranging from Nest thermostats to Nest smart displays. The Nest team researches, designs, and develops new technologies and hardware to make users’ homes more helpful. Our mission is the helpful home: to create a home that cares for the people inside it and the world around it.

Responsibilities

  • Review and validate WiFi, Bluetooth, Thread, Ultra-wideband subsystems, and front-end architecture. Use EM simulation and link budget calculation for initial performance prediction.
  • Optimize performance and debug issues (e.g., hardware/software tuning, certification, user mode performance, etc.), from prototype to mass production. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations (e.g., FCC and CE requirements).
  • Create and maintain technical documentation including hardware design specifications, test plans, and test reports.
  • Support factory production activities and lead counterparts on validation execution and issue debugging.
  • Attend business trips for project bring-up and lab/factory onsite debugging if needed.
